RUFUS WAINWRIGHT with Hohnen Ford
Singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright brings his celebrated artistry to the Birchmere for a single evening, with support from Hohnen Ford. Described by the New York Times as possessing “genuine originality,” Wainwright has built a decades-spanning career as a vocalist, songwriter, and composer. The New York-born, Montreal-raised artist has released ten studio albums, three DVDs, and three live albums, including the GRAMMY-nominated *Rufus Does Judy at Carnegie Hall*. His 2020 GRAMMY-nominated album *Unfollow the Rules* showcased his artistic maturity, while his 2023 GRAMMY-nominated *Folkocracy* featured reinvented folk duets with guests such as Chaka Khan, Brandi Carlile, John Legend, and Anohni. Beyond recordings, Wainwright has written two operas, composed for film and television, and collaborated with an extensive array of artists including Elton John, Burt Bacharach, Miley Cyrus, David Byrne, Joni Mitchell, and Paul Simon. In 2024, his first musical *Opening Night* premiered in London’s West End, and his *Dream Requiem* premiered with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, later recorded and released on Warner Classics in early 2025; the US premiere at Walt Disney Concert Hall featured Jane Fonda as narrator. Opening the evening is Hohnen Ford, an artist whose own work complements the evening’s musical experience.
