Adult Classes

STC Learning’s Fall 2026 adult classes invite participants of all experience levels to build community, explore their artistic interests, and develop practical theatre skills with professional Teaching Artists from the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area. Participants can choose between an acting-focused Shakespeare scene study course and a discussion-based exploration of magic, monsters, and mythology in Shakespeare’s plays.

The scene study class covers theatre games, acting fundamentals, Shakespearean language, rehearsal, and performance, ending with a brief sharing for family and friends. The appreciation course uses discussions, activities, and close readings to examine how Shakespeare used magic, supernatural forces, and legendary creatures on the Elizabethan stage and in his stories.

When: Fall 2026. Shakespeare Scene Study runs September 14–October 26, with no class on October 12. Appreciating Shakespeare: Magic, Monsters, and Myths runs November 2–December 7.

Showtimes: Both classes meet on Mondays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Classes: Shakespeare Scene Study and Appreciating Shakespeare: Magic, Monsters, and Myths.

Class Details: Shakespeare Scene Study introduces objectives, tactics, obstacles, stakes, given circumstances, and approaches to Shakespeare’s language. Students rehearse scenes with a Teaching Artist and apply their work in a short final sharing. The appreciation course examines Shakespeare’s use of magic, the supernatural, myth, and fantastical creatures through the viewpoints of actors, directors, and scholars.

Ages: Both classes are for adults ages 18 and older.

Tuition: $300 for a six-week class.

Deposit: Every participant must pay a $10 deposit to reserve a place, including participants receiving financial aid.

Financial Aid: Financial assistance is available. Payment plans may also be arranged by contacting Classes@ShakespeareTheatre.org.

Refund Policy: A 50% refund is available when registration is withdrawn at least one week before the first scheduled class. Tuition becomes nonrefundable starting one week before the first class. No refunds or exchanges are provided for missed classes, including absences caused by weather. If STC cancels a session, it will notify participants by email and try to reschedule it, but tuition remains nonrefundable. Refund processing may take two to three weeks.

Venue: STC’s Rehearsal Studios, 516 8th Street SE, Washington, D.C.

Accessibility and Transit: The studios are about two blocks from Eastern Market Metro station, served by the Orange, Blue, and Silver lines. Several bus routes also serve the neighborhood.

Parking: Limited permit parking and two-hour metered parking are available. Because Eastern Market is busy and legal parking for the full class can be difficult, public transportation is recommended. Drivers are encouraged to allow extra time and may use the ParkMobile app for metered spaces.
