An Evening with SHOVELS & ROPE

American folk duo Shovels & Rope, the husband-and-wife team of Michael Trent and Cary Ann Hearst, bring their intimate and energetic live show to the Birchmere for one night only. Known for their stripped-down, two-person approach, the pair have described their creative process for their latest album as starting from what they can accomplish live: “Less means more.… we can only use what we work with live and whatever we put down on tape must be accomplishable on a stage in a live setting.” They note that the result “encapsulates, more than anything we’ve done before, the sound of our live performance.” This evening promises a raw, risk-taking performance that highlights the duo’s signature folk sound and onstage chemistry.
