Make+Take: Make a Pack of Paper!

This hands-on workshop offers a welcoming introduction to the art of handmade paper. Participants will learn sheet-forming techniques from a classically trained calligrapher and craftsman, creating a stack of elegant sheets with distinctive deckled edges, toothy texture, and satisfying thickness. The finished paper can be used for thoughtful gifts, personal notes, or kept for one’s own creative projects. All skill levels are welcome, and no prior experience is required.

Instructor: Josh Berer, a Washington, DC–based calligrapher and craftsman with an ijazah (master calligrapher’s certification) in Thuluth and Naskh scripts from Mohamed Zakariya, and currently a student of Talik script. He is also versed in papermaking, marbling, illumination, bookbinding, and woodworking, and speaks Arabic, Persian, and Turkish.

When: Wednesday, July 15, 2026, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

Venue: Papermaking Studio.

Price: $46.00 per ticket.

Registration: Registration closes on July 8, 2026. This session is currently at capacity; to join a waitlist, email the studio with the participant’s name and the class name. If a spot opens or another session is added, registered waitlist members will be notified.

Materials: All materials are provided as part of the registration fee. Participants may optionally bring a waterproof apron (extras will be available) and are recommended to wear shoes with good tread that are water-resistant, as the floor may be wet and slick. A notebook and pen can be brought for optional note-taking.

Level: All levels welcome; no experience necessary.

Health and Safety: The studio has in-studio health and safety policies in place; participants are encouraged to review these along with the cancellation policies.

Cancellation Policies: The studio maintains specific cancellation policies, which should be reviewed prior to registration.
