De Novo Gallery | Marc Ferraro at Union Market
De Novo Gallery at Union Market presents its second Window Project exhibition, featuring paintings and sculptures by New York–based artist Marc Ferraro. Installed in a 24/7 street-facing window display, the exhibition brings contemporary art directly into the public realm, allowing passersby to engage with the work at any hour. Ferraro’s paintings explore the fundamental language of painting through bold gestural mark-making and material experimentation, often referencing art-historical motifs such as action painting or geometric abstraction before dissolving and reimagining them. He emphasizes the physical presence of paint, blurring the boundary between illusionistic space and the tangible object. His sculptural works begin with discarded furniture, which he reconfigures and transforms with papier-mâché and clay, creating richly textured surfaces that retain traces of their former lives. Together, the paintings and sculpture enter a dynamic dialogue, encouraging viewers to read the sculpture as an abstract composition while the sculptural work challenges the contained space of the canvas. All works in the exhibition are available for purchase.
