De Novo Gallery | Marc Ferraro at Union Market
De Novo Gallery presents its second Window Project exhibition, showcasing paintings and sculptures by New York–based artist Marc Ferraro. Installed in a street-facing window at Union Market, the exhibition is designed for viewing around the clock, bringing contemporary art into an everyday public setting.
Ferraro’s paintings investigate gestural mark-making, paint application, and the physical substance of the medium. He sometimes begins with familiar ideas from art history, including action painting and geometric abstraction, before dissolving and reimagining them. His sculptures transform discarded furniture through additions of papier-mâché and clay, preserving traces of their previous lives while turning the objects into new, heavily textured works. Shown together, the paintings and sculptures form a dialogue about abstraction, materiality, and how viewers distinguish between art objects and functional objects.
