Michael Lewis and Jacob Weisberg — Blockers and Profiles in Cowardice - with Andrew Sullivan — at St. Paul's
Michael Lewis and Jacob Weisberg appear in conversation about their new books, *Blockers* and *Profiles in Cowardice*, with Andrew Sullivan moderating. The evening examines public service, political power, fear, and the forces shaping American government and democracy during the second Trump administration.
In *Blockers*, Lewis profiles seven federal employees who became obstacles to the new Washington because they continued to protect sensitive information, enforce rules, prevent disasters, investigate disease, or otherwise serve the public interest. The book considers what their experiences reveal about government, public trust, and the country’s willingness to retain people who believe their work is essential.
Weisberg’s *Profiles in Cowardice* explores how influential individuals and institutions—including major figures in technology, finance, law, and the U.S. Senate—responded to Trump’s authoritarian ambitions. Through eight interconnected profiles, the book considers how fear, greed, vanity, and self-justification can enable democratic failure.
