Sabel Jane is the solo project of D.C.-based artist Izzy Burke, who is known for her work with Cherub Tree, Modest Goddess, Roscoe Tripp, Venray, and the dream-pop duo Letters to Delphi. For this new project, Burke strips away the noise to focus on incisive lyricism, evocative vocals, and understated yet compelling compositions. Her sound blends intimate singer-songwriter lyricism and a lo-fi folk aesthetic with the unabashed intensity of 90s female-fronted indie rock—evoking the cutting alt-rock edge of PJ Harvey alongside the consolatory tenderness of Adrianne Lenker, the emotional rawness of Elliott Smith with the poetic abstractions of Patti Smith, and a respect for the weight of silence as much as that of sound. The evening also features two supporting acts: XK Scenario, a Falls Church-based Punk/Prog/Hip-Hop/Jazz band led by vocalist Kaleab Elias and guitarist Alex Menick, described as “Rage Against The Machine on bath salts” and known for sharing stages with Flobots, Scream, Soulside, The Messthetics, and Ian MacKaye; and Grace A. Keller, a D.C.-based singer-songwriter and frontwoman of Hotel Sewing Kit, whose solo work blends reflective lyricism, delicate guitar, and a tender vocal style inspired by Adrianne Lenker, Elliott Smith, and Tracey Thorn.
