Reception for Edgar Reyes' "Los Vemos Pronto (See You Soon)"

Join The Nicholson Project and Hamiltonian Artists at the Mexican Cultural Institute for the opening reception of Edgar Reyes’ new video work, “Los Vemos Pronto (See You Soon).” The event celebrates the unveiling of this video as part of “I’ll meet you there,” a city-wide roving exhibition of contemporary video work by Stephanie J. Williams, Jermaine “jET” Carter, Edgar Reyes, and A.J. McClenon. During the reception, Reyes will discuss his work in conversation with artist Hoesy Corona, and light bites and refreshments will be provided.

Description: Edgar Reyes’ “Los Vemos Pronto (See You Soon)” is a new video that explores the tension between land as a sanctuary and a border. Layering rhythmic visuals of plants and landscapes, Reyes invites viewers to connect with the Earth’s restorative patterns. Inspired by contemporary Aztec dancers, the work uses symmetry and movement to reflect on the nature of borderlands, with mirrored visuals challenging boundaries placed on nature and creating a surreal space where ancestral memory and human expansion converge.

About the Artist: Edgar Reyes grew up near the Potomac River, where patterns in nature set the pace and rhythms of his existence. His work examines how birds and insects instinctively migrate to the DC-metro region through the flow of seasons, and reflects on humanity’s contradictory relationship with the environment—tending and nurturing the Earth while also exploiting it through tools of displacement and control.

Conversation Partner: Hoesy Corona is a multidisciplinary Latinx Queer artist based in Baltimore, MD, whose work spans installation, performance, and sculpture. Corona highlights the complex relationship between humans and the environment, focusing on climate change and its impact on habitation and migration. His work has been exhibited widely, including at Creative Alliance, Praxis NY Gallery, The Kreeger Museum, and the Hirshhorn Museum, and has been reviewed by The Washington Post, Bmore Art Magazine, and others.
