Smithsonian Academy Orchestra
The Smithsonian Academy Orchestra, led by artistic director and conductor Kenneth Slowik, performs a program spanning the Classical and early Romantic eras. Founded in 2024, the ensemble is a resident group of the Smithsonian Chamber Music Society, a National Museum of American History program. Its musicians include accomplished period-instrument performers who graduated within the past 15 years, and the orchestra approaches each work using historically appropriate performance practices.
The program features C. P. E. Bach’s *Symphony in C Major, Wq 182/3* (1773), Joseph Haydn’s *Symphony No. 52 in C Minor* (1771), and Franz Schubert’s *Symphony No. 5 in B-Flat Major, D 485* (1816).
