Wu Fei & Abigail Washburn

Wu Fei and Abigail Washburn bring together Chinese folk traditions and American old-time music in a shared-world collaboration. Wu Fei’s guzheng zither and Washburn’s expressive clawhammer banjo accompany songs in English and Chinese dialects, creating impressionistic interpretations of traditional music from Appalachia to China’s Xinjiang region.

Wu Fei is a classically trained composer and guzheng virtuoso whose work connects avant-garde classical music with folk traditions. Abigail Washburn, a Nashville-based singer, songwriter, and banjo player, has toured China for two decades and is known for her work with Uncle Earl and her duo with Béla Fleck. Together, they explore the common humanity and emotional power that connect musical traditions across cultures.
