Wu Fei & Abigail Washburn

Wu Fei and Abigail Washburn bring together the Chinese guzheng and American banjo in a cross-cultural collaboration blending Appalachian old-time music with Chinese folk songs. Their impressionistic arrangements draw on traditional music from Appalachia to China’s Xinjiang region, with singing in English and Chinese dialects.

Wu Fei is a guzheng master, multilingual classically trained composer, and former child prodigy whose work combines avant-garde classical and global folk traditions. After moving to the United States to study free improvisation, she settled in Boulder, Colorado, where she discovered bluegrass and met banjoist Abigail Washburn.
