The R&B Club Discusses the Year in R&B: 1996
The R&B Club presents a musical book-club-style conversation about the major R&B releases, artists, and cultural impact of 1996. The discussion considers why the year remains significant, from Lauryn Hill’s growing prominence and the success of the *Waiting to Exhale* soundtrack and Mariah Carey’s *Daydream* to the breakthroughs of Maxwell and Dru Hill.
The program also looks at major returns by SWV, Toni Braxton, and Aaliyah, New Edition’s comeback, Tony! Toni! Toné!’s farewell, and the continued growth of hip-hop and R&B collaborations. The R&B Club is a cultural gathering founded in 2018 that explores the influence of R&B through a musical book-club format.
