Stephanie Green discusses her new book, *American Crown: From Revolutionaries to Royalty: The Story of Prince William's American Ancestors*, in conversation with Amy Argetsinger. This fresh and perspective-shifting narrative blends American history and royal biography to explore the Prince of Wales's American lineage—ancestors who fought against the British crown during the Revolution—and how that heritage will shape his future role as King of Great Britain. The book traces the roots of Diana, Princess of Wales, from the Spencer family’s friendship with the Washington clan to Diana’s maternal side, whose American ancestors fought in the Revolution, prospered in the new nation, and sent a daughter across the Atlantic to marry into the British elite. Other Spencers raised funds for the American rebels in the 1770s. Featuring figures like Nathan Hale, Cornelius Vanderbilt, Winston Churchill, King George VI, and Queen Elizabeth II, *American Crown* tells the story of a very new kind of royal family with the potential to bring two countries closer together.

Author: Stephanie Green is a cultural journalist and features writer, longtime contributor to *The Washington Post*, former reporter for *Bloomberg News* and *The Washington Times*, with work in *Vogue, Vanity Fair, WWD* and other publications. She lives in Washington, DC.

Conversation partner: Amy Argetsinger is an editor for *The Washington Post*’s Style section, where she has overseen coverage of media, popular culture, politics, and society. A staff writer since 1995, she covered local DC communities, higher education, and the West Coast, and authored the paper’s Reliable Source gossip column for eight years. She lives in Washington, DC, with her husband and daughter. Her first book is *There She Was: The Secret History of Miss America* (Simon & Schuster, 2021).
