GWCC Monthly Céilí
The Greater Washington Céilí Club’s monthly céilí is an Irish social dance gathering open to experienced dancers, beginners, listeners, and anyone curious about traditional Irish music and dance. The program features Irish set dances, which are similar to American square dances, along with some céilí dances resembling contra dancing. Participants can expect a welcoming community atmosphere, live traditional music, and a shared potluck supper.
The club has promoted Irish dance, music, and culture since 1985 and typically presents monthly céilís from September through May. Dances are called, and experienced attendees are happy to help newcomers. Dance notes and videos are available through the club’s program materials and website, with shorthand notes also provided at the event.
