Great Brazilian Guitars brings three acclaimed guitarists—Romero Lubambo, Chico Pinheiro, and Diego Figueiredo—to Blues Alley as part of the venue’s Brazilian Jazz Series. The program highlights the contrasting yet complementary traditions of Brazilian music, classical music, and American jazz, with each performer known for distinctive guitar work, composition, and improvisation.

Romero Lubambo has been based in the United States since 1985 and is recognized for combining Brazilian rhythms with the language of American jazz. He has worked with artists including Dianne Reeves, Billie Eilish, Angelique Kidjo, Michael Brecker, Yo-Yo Ma, Diana Krall, Wynton Marsalis, Luciana Souza, Paquito D’Rivera, and many others. He is also a composer, solo artist, and member of the Grammy-nominated Brazilian jazz trio Trio da Paz, formed with Nilson Matta and Duduka da Fonseca.

Chico Pinheiro, who was born and raised in São Paulo, began playing guitar at age six and working as a studio musician at 14. His music brings together Brazilian music, classical music, and jazz. He has received two American Grammy nominations, in 2019 and 2020, and released his first album, *Meia Noite Meio Dia*, in 2003. That recording featured guest vocalists Lenine, Ed Motta, Chico César, and Maria Rita and was named among the year’s top Brazilian albums by several major Brazilian newspapers.

Diego Figueiredo is described as a rising international star of the guitar. The page credits him with 26 CDs and three DVDs, as well as performances in more than 60 countries. His concert history includes the Montreux, Hong Kong, Copenhagen, Jarasum, Rio das Ostras, Oakville, La Paz Festijazz, and Douro jazz festivals, along with appearances at venues and events such as Dizzy’s Club and Birdland in New York, Joe’s Pub, Jazz Alley, Vail Jazz Party, Aspen Jazz Series, Jazz Port Townsend, Django Fest, Jazzhus Montmartre, and Guitar Masters in Germany.
