Icons and Flow is a photography exhibition at The LINE DC bringing together two related series by Baltimore-based artist Rachel A Sale. The exhibition considers identity, perception, beauty, gender, resilience, and the body as a site of awareness and lived experience.

In *Icons*, Sale and creative director John Coplen reinterpret culturally familiar images by reversing gender roles. The work disrupts conventional ideas about beauty and desire, asking how identity and meaning change when images are reassigned from one body to another. *Flow*, created by Sale, portrays women practicing yoga as an embodied form of resilience, healing, self-definition, and agency. The subjects’ accompanying reflections describe how yoga helps them navigate adversity and maintain balance. Originally produced as calendars and circulated during the Women’s March in Washington, D.C., the series combines intimate portraiture with personal testimony.

About Rachel A Sale: Sale is a Baltimore-based visual storyteller whose work spans commercial production and humanitarian documentary. Over two decades, she has photographed human stories across Asia, Africa, Latin America, and other regions, creating visual narratives for mission-driven organizations and brands.

About John Coplen: Coplen is a Washington, D.C.-based former architect and real estate agent whose work examines how designed and inhabited spaces reflect inner lives. He brings perspectives shaped by his experience as a gay man living outside conventional expectations and helped organize this debut collection.
