Postcards from America

National Philharmonic presents *Postcards from America*, a concert led by conductor Daniel Hege that explores the American experience through music inspired by landscapes, history, national identity, childhood memories, and dance traditions. The program travels from Aaron Copland’s portrait of pioneer life in *Appalachian Spring* to Arturo Márquez’s energetic evocation of the dance halls of Veracruz.

Soprano Danielle Talamantes joins the orchestra for Samuel Barber’s nostalgic *Knoxville: Summer of 1915* and two George Gershwin songs. Joan Tower’s *Made in America* examines the familiar tune “America the Beautiful,” while the concert concludes with Márquez’s vivid and rhythmically charged *Danzón No. 2*.
