Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, DC: I Am America
The Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, DC brings its concert “I Am America” to Olney Theatre Center’s Root Family Stage for a single evening performance. The program celebrates the chorus’s mission of inspiring equality and inclusion through music, showcasing a large ensemble known for both polished choral artistry and community engagement. As part of Olney’s 2026–27 Olney Outdoors series, this performance offers a chance to hear one of the region’s most prominent LGBTQ+ choruses in an outdoor setting.
Led by Artistic Director Thea Kano, the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, DC is marking its 45th season with more than 250 singing members, three select ensembles, a dance company, a youth chorus, and an annual audience exceeding 10,000 people. The organization also presents over 100 outreach performances each season and has notable past appearances, including performances for President and First Lady Obama, eight consecutive years at President and Dr. Biden’s residence, twice at the Kennedy Center Honors, and a part in President Clinton’s inaugural celebration. Its GenOUT Youth Chorus, launched in 2015, has welcomed more than 160 singers from 80 area schools.
