Rhythmic Tales: William Hooker & On Ka’a Davis

Rhythmic Tales brings together drummer and spoken-word artist William Hooker with guitarist On Ka’a Davis for an open-ended performance drawing on jazz, new music, experimental practice, improvisation, and narrative expression. Hooker’s drums and voice meet Davis’s acoustic and electric guitars in a program shaped by their wide-ranging approaches to composition and performance.

William Hooker is known for crossing genre boundaries and developing new forms of music. He has released more than 80 albums as a leader, including his latest, *Convergence: Live in China*, recorded with guitarist David King. His performance history includes the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Lincoln Center’s Atrium, Wadsworth Atheneum, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Walker Art Center, MTV, The Kitchen, Roulette, and Real Art Ways, as well as appearances at festivals including the JVC, Montreal, Vancouver, CMJ, Vilnius, Experimenta Argentina, and Victoriaville music festivals.

On Ka’a Davis, a longtime artist and activist on New York’s Lower East Side, works primarily as a guitarist across classical guitar, creative improvisation, jazz, roots-based traditions, and contemporary composed music. Davis also performs on electric violin and keyboards and sings, and has composed works for solo classical guitar, guitar with ensemble, dance, and film.
