Marcus Mitchell Presents Jazmin Ghent
Get ready for an epic night at Blues Alley as Marcus Mitchell presents the award-winning international jazz saxophonist and educator Jazmin Ghent. Ghent has rapidly become a leading voice in contemporary jazz, R&B, and gospel, with a career launched in 2014 at the Smooth Jazz Cruise’s Show Your Talent competition. Her third album, *The Story of Jazz*, earned a prestigious NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Jazz Album in 2019, and her fourth, *Forever Jaz*, received another nomination in 2022. The Smooth Jazz Network named her Best New Smooth Jazz Artist in 2017 and has nominated her for Best Artist of the Year. Ghent’s dynamic performances have graced festivals and venues worldwide, including repeat appearances at The Dave Koz Cruise, Brian Culbertson’s Napa Valley Jazz Getaway, the Newport Beach Jazz Festival, the Long Beach Jazz Festival, the Mallorca Smooth Jazz Festival, and performances in Australia, Spain, and the Caribbean. Art Good of Catalina Island’s JazzTrax praised her as a “BEST FIND,” noting her exceptional stage presence and ability to connect with audiences. Beyond performing, Ghent is a passionate music educator who taught K‑5 music in Lakeland, Florida, for five years, led U.S. Embassy‑sponsored workshops in Haiti in 2020, conducted clinics at the 2022 World EXPO in Dubai, and has received keys to cities including McKinney, Texas. She holds a bachelor’s in Music Education from Florida State University, a master’s from Tennessee State University, and a Ph.D. in Music Education from the University of South Florida. With five albums to her name, Ghent brings her fiery saxophone and inspirational artistry to Blues Alley for one night only.
