Epilogue

“Epilogue” presents paintings by Kurtis Ceppetelli and Matt Malone, who worked together for seventeen years under the name Duly Noted Painters. The exhibition traces their evolving artistic conversation, in which they alternated between painting, observing, and reengaging without a fixed division of roles. Following Ceppetelli’s unexpected death earlier in 2026, the works take on a poignant significance as a record of a collaboration that can no longer continue in the same way.

The exhibition spans their careers and includes works shaped by shared experiences, art-historical references, poetry, travel, and the presence of friends and fellow artists in their studio. Featured paintings include Malone’s reinterpretation of El Greco’s *The Repentant St. Peter*, *Halifax II*, *Green Poem I*, *Fell*, and *The Matador*, the last painting the artists completed together. Text, abstraction, obscured imagery, and layered brushwork recur throughout the work, which remains as evidence of the artists’ mutual influence and ongoing exchange.

Background: Ceppetelli and Malone first met while working as museum guards at The Phillips Collection. Their collaborative process could involve both artists working at once or one stepping back to watch until ready to participate. Many of their paintings were completed in a single session in a studio shared with friends and other artists.
