On Friday, September 18, 2026, Dupont Underground in Washington, DC, presents *America!*, the opening concert of Counterpoint Concerts’ Season 3. This classical and chamber music program marks the 250th anniversary of the United States and explores themes of migration, memory, resistance, and reinvention through music written by composers who made their home in America. The evening gathers works by Lera Auerbach, Béla Bartók, Arnold Schoenberg, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and Tan Dun, each of whom carried folk traditions, political histories, and personal memories across borders while forging new artistic identities.

The program includes Bartók’s *Romanian Folk Dances*, which transforms Transylvanian melodies for an ensemble; Schoenberg’s *Ode to Napoleon*, setting Lord Byron’s text as a protest against tyranny; Tan Dun’s nostalgic *Eight Memories in Watercolor*; and Auerbach’s *Piano Trio No. 2*, described as a fractured mirror exploring the tension between individuality and ensemble, harmony and conflict. Rachmaninoff is also featured among the evening’s composers. Performers are Allyson Goodman on viola, Joseph Gotoff on cello, Katie Hyun and Miho Saegusa on violin, Natalia Kazaryan on piano, and Rob McGinness as baritone, with official event art by David Plunkert.
