Swing 5 Jazz/ Includes beginner Balboa dance lesson @7:15
Swing 5 brings a 1930s-inspired French jazz and swing sound to Hank Dietle’s Tavern, drawing on the music of Django Reinhardt. Led by local guitarist James Key, the band combines slap bass, two rhythm guitars, accordion, and fiddle to create lively, dance-oriented music.
The evening begins with a free introductory Balboa lesson led by experienced Glen Echo instructors Tony Treston and Katherine Anderson. Balboa is a footwork-focused dance suited to fast tempos and crowded floors, and no partner is required. After the lesson, attendees can practice their new steps during Swing 5’s performance.
