50 for 50: Keith Kozloff

“50 for 50: Keith Kozloff” presents a photographic exploration of Ireland’s layered landscapes and the traces of history embedded in them. Kozloff’s images consider dolmens, ring forts, castles, abbeys, churches, cemeteries, and dry-stone walls as overlapping records of thousands of years, where ancient and contemporary structures can appear side by side.

To convey this accumulation of time, Kozloff uses multiple-exposure photography, combining as many as nine views of a single subject into one image. The resulting semi-abstract photographs soften the landscape’s apparent solidity and challenge the expectation that photography should provide a clear, fixed moment in time and space.

The exhibition is part of Touchstone Gallery’s “50 for 50” artist opportunity, which features 50 community artists during 2026 in celebration of the gallery’s 50th anniversary. Kozloff is a Washington, D.C.-area photographer and mixed-media artist working in photo encaustic. His practice reflects both his appreciation for the natural world and his concern about humanity’s disruption of natural cycles. He also collaborates with other artists, including through a 2025 project involving 15 local poets who responded to his work.
