ViRG (Album Release Show)
ViRG celebrates the release of *Why Not Destroy This?*, a synthesizer-driven dark-pop album centered on human connection, resistance, self-determination, and liberation. Led by Piano Whitman, ViRG combines fully analog synthesizers with vulnerable vocals, sharp hooks, and a live-band sensibility.
The album marks a new phase for ViRG: earlier releases were largely solo projects, while this record is the recorded debut of ViRG as a band. Its contributors include synthesists Alex Salser and Daniel Rozmajzl, along with drummer and percussionist Maxfield Holiday. The music explores both the emotional possibilities of vintage electronic instruments and the tensions of a rapidly changing, increasingly corporate and technology-driven world, including themes such as artificial intelligence, strained relationships, curiosity, and personal change.
Whitman began experimenting with her father’s 1980s Roland synthesizer as a child and later expanded into guitar, saxophone, and songwriting. She has performed with bands including My Kid Brother and Oh He Dead, and released ViRG’s albums *I Was Dressed in Yellow* in 2019 and *Weeks* in 2023. The release show is presented by Rat City Presents, with Anthony Pirog, Red Sunflower, and Dumb Lucky supporting.
