The Therapeutic Harpsichord
Janine Johnson, a renowned harpsichordist and composer, gives the premiere performance of her vividly programmatic collection of Preludes and Fugues, inspired by J. S. Bach’s *The Well-Tempered Clavier*. Written as a personal musical diary during the transformative year 2020, *The Therapeutic Harpsichord* reflects that period’s solitude and unease alongside moments of joy found in nature and everyday life.
The concert is the second of three programs in Festival Capriccio 2026’s Counterpoints Cycle, which explores harpsichord music from the Baroque era through the 20th century and into the present day. The series considers how music from different periods can echo and illuminate one another while demonstrating the instrument’s range and expressive possibilities.
