A Raisin in the Sun

Lorraine Hansberry’s landmark drama follows the Younger family on Chicago’s South Side as a life insurance payment brings new possibilities—and difficult choices. With each family member pursuing a different vision of a better future, the family confronts the meaning of opportunity and the realities of segregation and discrimination.

The production celebrates Black joy, resilience and family while exploring the barriers surrounding Black life in America. It also carries major theatrical significance: Hansberry’s play was the first Broadway production written by an African American woman, the first Broadway play directed by an African American man, and the first commercially produced Broadway drama centered on Black life. TDPS Assistant Professor KenYatta Rogers directs; his previous directing credits include *Stick Fly*, *Men on Boats*, *Metamorphoses* and *Home*.

Tickets: Regular admission is $30 plus a $5 booking fee. Student and youth admission is $10.
