Sun, Oct 4, 2026at 2:30 PM
6950 Maple Street Northwest, Washington, DC
$15-$25
Featuring: Killick Hinds, John C. L. Jansen, Nocturnal Creatures Troupe

This afternoon program pairs Killick Hinds’s unconventional Appalachian Trance Metal with the experimental musicianship of John C. L. Jansen, followed by a multimedia musical puppet show from Nocturnal Creatures Troupe. The event brings together unusual string instruments, intuitive and nontraditional rhythms, puppetry, songwriting, and absurd storytelling.

Nocturnal Creatures Troupe presents *The Unsolved Mystery of Ms. Patsy Climb*, a comic musical about a humanoid bat, a mysterious spider, and a cranky mouse trying to succeed as street performers in New Orleans’s French Quarter. As they pursue a record deal and a life of fame, they encounter questions involving free hot dogs, a detective named Bark, and the strange realities of life in the Big Easy.

When: Sunday, October 4, 2026.

Schedule: Doors open at 2:00 PM, and the show begins at 2:30 PM. The event listing runs from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.

Tickets: $15–$25.

Lineup: Killick Hinds, John C. L. Jansen, and Nocturnal Creatures Troupe.

Killick Hinds: Based in Athens, Georgia, Hinds creates Appalachian Trance Metal on unusual stringed instruments. His approach emphasizes rhythms that do not follow standard measurement, intuitive tuning, and influences ranging from animals, wind, water, fire, electrical hum, and silence to pop-culture mashups and ancient or obscure musical forms. His music is intended to evoke speech, emotional architecture, and familiar sensations rather than conventional Western composition. He has been playing for 41 years, has collaborated with artists around the world, and has more than 300 albums available through his Bandcamp page.

John C. L. Jansen: Jansen is a composer, guitarist, audio engineer, instrument builder, and music theory teacher who lives in Takoma Park, Maryland.

Nocturnal Creatures Troupe: The troupe is a collaboration between Omer Gal, also known as Cookie Tongue, and Krystal Burns, also known as Sweet Oddity. Their puppet musicals follow three nocturnal misfits through absurd stories set in New Orleans’s French Quarter, aiming to replace everyday monotony with humor, wonder, inspiration, and the spirit of the city.

Production details: *The Unsolved Mystery of Ms. Patsy Climb* explores the lives of its bat, spider, and mouse characters as they navigate street performance, encounters with others, and their ambition to make it big. The production combines puppetry, music, and multimedia elements.

Performers’ background: Omer Gal is an award-winning artist, performer, and puppeteer whose work has appeared at festivals, venues, and galleries including the New Orleans Giant Puppet Festival, Asheville Fringe Arts, and Latitude. Krystal Burns is a puppeteer who has presented work at the New Orleans Giant Puppet Festival and venues across the United States and Greece. She is also a street performer, songwriter, and herbal-magic practitioner.

Ages: The page describes Killick Hinds’s music as accessible to audiences of all ages and musical experience levels. No separate age restriction for the full event is listed.
