GWCC Monthly Céilí
The Greater Washington Céilí Club’s monthly Irish social dance brings the community together at The Lyceum in Sandy Spring. The afternoon begins with instruction in the Claddagh Set, followed by a traditional céilí featuring live music, called dances, and a potluck supper. Beginners, experienced dancers, listeners, and anyone curious about Irish dance are welcome.
The program centers on Irish Sets, which are similar to American square dances, along with several céilí dances resembling contra. Dance notes and videos are available through the club’s website and flyer, shorthand notes are provided at the event, and dances are called so that newcomers can participate. The event is part of the Greater Washington Céilí Club’s series of monthly céilís, which the organization has presented since 1985.
