Songs of the Goat: Eurydice by Sarah Ruhl

Songs of the Goat presents Sarah Ruhl’s imaginative retelling of the Orpheus and Eurydice myth from Eurydice’s perspective. After dying unexpectedly on her wedding day, Eurydice enters an Underworld depicted as a theatrical playground rather than a traditional hellscape. There, stripped of her memories and language and watched over by a Chorus of Stones, she reunites with her deceased father, who helps her recover her past.

When Orpheus’s music opens the gates of the Underworld, Eurydice must decide whether to return with her husband to a world she no longer fully understands or remain with her father in the familiar safety of the land of the dead. Drawing on the influence of Samuel Beckett, this visceral, ensemble-driven production explores grief, love, memory, and the enduring power of parental bonds.

Masked Performance: The September 10 performance at 8:00 PM is a masked performance. Patrons attending are required to wear face masks to encourage accessibility.
