The Fruits of Our Labor

Step Afrika!’s world-premiere production, *The Fruits of Our Labor*, commemorates America’s 250th anniversary through a visceral exploration of rhythm, resilience, and the unfinished story of the American experience. Combining stepping, contemporary dance, percussion, and striking visual imagery, the piece transforms the stage into a kinetic examination of what it means to believe in a nation that is still being made.

The production is directed and choreographed by Jakari Sherman, a choreographer, ethnochoreologist, and performer with more than 20 years of experience. Rooted in the African American tradition of stepping, Sherman’s work expands percussive dance through technology, storytelling, and varied musical scores.
