University Chamber Singers Concert: Where Light Begins: A Choral Meditation on Creation

The University Chamber Singers present "Where Light Begins: A Choral Meditation on Creation," an evening-length choral program that follows the story of the world emerging from nothingness. Under the direction of Dr. Lisa Billingham, the ensemble traces this theme across three centuries of choral music, moving from the quiet before time through the awakening of the natural world and into humanity's place within creation. The program pairs selections from Franz Joseph Haydn’s 1798 oratorio "The Creation" with music from Dan Forrest’s 2023 work "CREATION," written 225 years later as a deliberate homage to Haydn. Both works share a sense of wonder as they depict the forming of light, sky, and landscape, and the concert presents these oratorio selections in an intimate chamber music setting.
