Johnny Burgin Blues Revue Featuring: Bruce Ewan • Tommy Hannigan • Mark Stutso
The Johnny Burgin Blues Revue brings Chicago blues guitarist and vocalist Johnny Burgin together with DMV blues veterans Bruce Ewan, Tommy Hannigan, and Mark Stutso. Burgin performs more than 200 shows a year across the United States, Europe, and Japan. Raised in Mississippi, he developed his West Side Chicago blues style in Chicago, where Tail Dragger gave him some of his first professional opportunities. Burgin later toured and recorded with Pinetop Perkins, Sam Lay, and Billy Boy Arnold, and has released 10 albums on Delmark and Vizztone.
The revue also features harmonica player Bruce Ewan, a fixture of the Washington-area blues scene since 1975 who has performed with John Lee Hooker, Albert Collins, and Carey Bell. Bassist Tommy Hannigan, a Texas native and current member of the Nighthawks, contributes his experience in blues, R&B, roots-rock, and rock ’n’ roll. Drummer and vocalist Mark Stutso, also a member of the Nighthawks, brings a background that includes work with Jimmy Thackery, Ruffryder, Trix, and other regional acts.

Johnny Burgin: Burgin’s recordings include *Johnny Burgin Live*, featuring Charlie Musselwhite, Nancy Wright, and Rae Gordon, and *No Border Blues: Japan*, a compilation highlighting Japan’s underground blues scene. He received a Blues Music Award nomination for *Howlin’ at Greaseland* and recognition for Best Live Release.
Bruce Ewan: Ewan is known for his diatonic and chromatic harmonica playing, combining Chicago-style blues with jazz influences and extensive blues knowledge. The Washington Post has described him as a harmonica wizard.
Tommy Hannigan: Hannigan is recognized for his deep-pocket bass playing and adaptable, song-focused approach. In addition to the Nighthawks, his past groups include The Shambles and the Grand Dukes, and he has backed artists including Burgin.
Mark Stutso: Stutso is a self-taught drummer and vocalist whose work spans rock, blues, and American roots music. Before becoming a full-time musician, he spent five years working in West Virginia’s coal mines.
