An Evening with Caleb Caudle & The Sweet Critters
An Evening with Caleb Caudle & The Sweet Critters brings North Carolina songwriter Caleb Caudle to Jammin Java for an intimate performance rooted in country tradition, folk storytelling, and indie-rock influence. Caudle’s music draws on a life shaped by perseverance, family, work, and the complicated emotional realities of ordinary people.
The performance centers on material from Caudle’s album *Heavy Thrill*, his first self-produced record. Recorded at Cash Cabin in Hendersonville, Tennessee, the album reflects on accepting life’s uncertainty, enduring difficult seasons, and making the most of what circumstances provide. Its songs include “Slow Growth,” “The Ballad of Country Ham,” “Anxious,” “Fox Got the Chicken,” and “Toll Booth,” the latter co-written with two-time Grammy winner Natalie Hemby.
Caudle is also introducing Handplow Records, his own label named after a weathered steel handplow preserved in his family. The object symbolizes the labor, patience, and dedication that have guided both his family’s farming history and his gradual rise as a musician. He has performed at Merlefest, Luck Reunion, Kerrville Folk Festival, Bourbon & Beyond, Stagecoach, and Cayamo, appeared several times on NPR’s *Mountain Stage*, and served as a guest DJ on Sirius XM’s Outlaw Country. In fall 2024, he made his first appearance at the Grand Ole Opry.
