Atlas Presents City at Peace- SYEP

Atlas Presents City at Peace- SYEP is a two-day performance showcase at the Atlas Performing Arts Center that celebrates the creativity, talent, and voices of DC’s young people. Through artistic expression and collaborative storytelling, the SYEP youth participants explore themes of community, connection, and the shared work of building a more peaceful city. The presentation highlights the imagination and effort of the young performers as they bring their own perspectives and experiences to the stage.

The centerpiece story follows Rio, an 18-year-old determined to build a better future by saving for college while constantly shielding her family from financial instability. When her mother’s impulsive decisions bring unpredictable strangers and dangerous new dynamics into their home, Rio is caught between her own dreams and her need to protect her younger sister. As hidden fractures in the household grow, Rio must confront what true sacrifice means and decide how far she will go to safeguard the people she loves.
