Pauline Steinhorn presents the story behind her new book *Dreaming of the River: A Mother and Daughter’s Fight for Survival during the Holocaust*, a work drawn from the actual diaries of her own mother and grandmother. The narrative follows Bronia Feldman, who after being torn from her family in 1942 becomes a crucial figure in an underground medical lifeline inside the HASAG munitions forced-labor camp in occupied Poland. Her thirteen-year-old daughter Hajuta is sent to a nearby work site, and their reunion—first a brief escape, then a later, heartbreaking meeting—unfolds against the backdrop of deportation to Bergen-Belsen in January 1945. The title’s river, the Kamienna, symbolizes the memories of music and dancing that sustain them. Steinhorn is an award-winning filmmaker and writer whose essays have appeared in the *Wall Street Journal* and *Moment* magazine, and she serves on the board of Generation After DC, a nonprofit network of Holocaust survivors and their children. She regularly shares her family’s experiences at synagogues, Yom HaShoah commemorations, and in classrooms.
