iiisa / Heather Stebbins & Rachel Beetz / projections by Ex Lamp

An evening of experimental music and projected video at Rhizome DC features iiisa, the debut duo project of Heather Stebbins and Rachel Beetz, and visual artist Ex Lamp. James June Schneider of Ex Lamp will project imagery onto the side of the house while the musicians perform in the backyard, weather permitting.

iiisa combines field recordings, poemsongs, and family voices from Costa Rica to create memory portals and improvisational, transformative soundscapes. Their work has been presented by Roulette Intermedium, Big Ears Festival, and Pioneer Works, and their debut album is scheduled for release in fall 2026 on Leaving Records.

Heather Stebbins is a DC-based composer and multi-instrumentalist whose music examines the boundary between memory and emotion. Her patient, slowly unfolding pieces incorporate cello, synthesizer, and other electronics. Her album *On Separation* was released by Outside Time in May.

Composer, flutist, and improviser Rachel Beetz builds work around presence and deep listening. She combines experimental field recordings with electronically altered flutes, exploring nature, machines, community, environmentalism, and women’s work through sound, textiles, and lighting. Her projects have appeared in concert halls and galleries in Australia, Iceland, India, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Ex Lamp, the performance name of Washington, D.C.-based James June Schneider, has presented video as a solo artist and band member since 2002, including work with AE alongside a member of plunderphonic group Stock, Hausen and Walkman. For this event, he will present *H2O and Back*, a new visuals-only piece.
