Icons & Flow: PRIDE Celebration
Icons & Flow: PRIDE Celebration brings together two photographic series by Baltimore-based artist Rachel A Sale, presented by Transformer in partnership with the LINE DC. On view in the hotel’s G Level Lobby, the exhibition considers identity, beauty, gender, embodiment, and resilience through both conceptual and intimate photographic work.
Icons, developed by Sale with creative director John Coplen, reworks culturally familiar images through gender reversal. Rather than reproducing the originals, the series disrupts conventional assumptions about beauty and desire, asking how perception changes when identity, gender, and the body are reassigned. Flow focuses on women practicing resilience through yoga. Sale’s subjects use movement, grounding, and self-definition to express strength, vulnerability, healing, and persistence. Their accompanying reflections describe yoga as a way to navigate adversity, reclaim agency, and maintain inner balance. Originally developed as calendar images and circulated during the Women’s March in Washington, D.C., Flow connects individual ritual with collective empowerment.
The exhibition’s PRIDE celebration will take place on the LINE’s rooftop, with wine, light bites, and a cash bar. The program also includes an earlier opening reception and meet-the-artist event.

About Rachel A Sale: Sale is a Baltimore-based visual storyteller whose work spans commercial production and humanitarian documentary. Over two decades, she has photographed human stories across Asia, Africa, Latin America, and other regions, creating visual narratives for mission-driven organizations and brands.
About John Coplen: Coplen is a Washington, D.C.-based former architect and real estate agent. His work and perspective examine how designed and inhabited spaces reflect inner life, informed in part by his experience as a gay man living outside expected norms.
