Maria Grand Quartet

Maria Grand leads a quartet built around saxophone, vocals, bass, percussion, and drums. The performance combines free improvisation with poems, stories, original compositions, familiar songs, and songs turned inside out, allowing the music to respond spontaneously to the moment and to the audience.

Drawing on Grand’s New York roots and her interest in rhythm, collective ritual, and the continuum of Black music often called jazz, the ensemble moves between raw, high-energy playing and spacious introspection. Its concerts are intended as shared, vulnerable musical experiences, with sound and storytelling serving as a form of connection and nourishment. The quartet’s new album, *Both Sides*, is released on Lilaila Records.
