Photomontage Collage

Wed, Nov 4, 2026at 6:30 PM
4318 Gallatin Street, Hyattsville, MD
$152

Photomontage Collage is a beginner-friendly, two-session workshop on creating narrative collages from magazine images and other found printed materials. Participants will explore how existing imagery can be combined to develop personal compositions, with possibilities ranging from surrealism and political commentary to any subject they choose. No prior experience is required.

The workshop also considers the history of magazine collage, including the irreverent approach of Hannah Höch, the only woman in the Dada art movement in Germany after World War I. Participants will receive some collage materials in class and bring additional paints, tools, and found papers of their own.

When: November 4 and November 11

Showtimes: 6:30–9:00 p.m. on both class days

Tickets: $152

Registration deadline: November 3, 2026

Level: Beginner; no experience is necessary.

Venue: Pyramid Atlantic Art Center

Instructor: Sharon Robinson, a Washington, D.C.-area mixed-media, collage, and assemblage artist. Robinson previously worked in urban transit and development after earning a Master’s of City Planning from MIT, then became a full-time artist in 1999. She has exhibited extensively on both coasts and teaches mixed-media classes at the Smithsonian, the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, and Pyramid Atlantic Art Center.

Included materials: Registration includes a $16 materials fee covering consumable supplies such as matboard, additional paints and pigments, stencils, stamps, and access to more collage and magazine materials. The workshop fee also includes the provided class supplies.

A small bottle of Liquitex or Golden acrylic medium in gloss or matte finish is also requested; participants should not bring varnish. Magazines, sheet music, book pages, maps, and other found papers are optional. Participants may also bring an apron or wear clothing that can get messy, although extra aprons will be available.
