Gustavo Casenave - Solo Piano Performance
Gustavo Casenave presents a solo piano performance at Blues Alley Jazz. The three-time Grammy Award-winning Uruguayan-American pianist and composer is known for work spanning jazz, classical music, and tango. The concert is co-presented with the Embassy of Uruguay.
Casenave won Grammys for Best Latin Jazz Album as a producer in 2023, Best Tango Album as a bandleader in 2020, and Best Instrumental Album for a solo piano recording in 2019. He has also received six Latin Grammy nominations, including three for Best Contemporary Classical Composition. A Steinway Artist since 2014, he has earned international honors including the 2022 Majestic Excellence Award, two Global Music Awards gold medals, Uruguay’s Horacio Ferrer Award, and recognition as an illustrious citizen of Montevideo.
His performance and collaboration credits include work with Yo-Yo Ma, Christian McBride, Bette Midler, the Berlin Philharmonic’s 12 cellists, John Patitucci, Paquito D’Rivera, Robert Duvall, Eddie Gomez, and Deepak Chopra. He has performed at venues such as Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Lincoln Center, and Taiwan National Concert Hall, and has participated in major U.S. tango productions including *Forever Tango*, *Tango Fire*, *Tango Lovers*, *Tango Buenos Aires*, and *Eternal Tango Orchestra*.

Background: Casenave has more than 35 albums to his name and published the music-theory book *The Harmonic Structure Levels*. He is a former Jazz Department Director at the Harbor Conservatory for the Performing Arts, a permanent faculty member at the Stowe Tango Music Festival, and a guest lecturer and master-class instructor at institutions including Juilliard, Yale, Eastman, Oberlin, and Indiana University.
