J.P. McDermott & Western Bop
J.P. McDermott & Western Bop return to Hank Dietle’s Tavern for a one-night performance of red-hot rockabilly and early rock ’n’ roll. The set is expected to include music shaped by Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, and the classic rockabilly tradition.
Washington, D.C., native J.P. McDermott has performed in settings ranging from church choirs and musical comedy to New Wave bands, but is best known for rockabilly, early rock ’n’ roll, and Roy Orbison-style ballads. He has been named Country Vocalist of the Year multiple times by the Washington Area Music Association and has performed the national anthem a cappella for approximately 49,000 people at Camden Yards.
McDermott is also deeply connected to Buddy Holly’s music. He founded an annual celebration of Holly’s life and work, has lectured on the subject at the Smithsonian Institution, and performed at the Buddy Holly Center in Lubbock, Texas, on what would have been Holly’s 75th birthday. He is currently based in Southern California and continues performing on the West Coast.
