Artist's Reception - Mijin Chun Presents: "Poetic Circus"
Mijin Chun’s solo exhibition “Poetic Circus” presents an acrylic gouache series on flat watercolor paper, imagining a humorous, dreamlike “SurReality Show” where the circus meets the strange, wounded beauty of a two-dimensional world. The exhibition’s small-scale “Tiny Treasure” works measure 6 by 6 inches and draw on Chun’s admiration for Rococo and Baroque ornament, Korean costume, vintage textiles, embroidery, and elaborately styled hair.
Visitors can meet Chun at the opening reception and view the exhibition throughout September. Her work reflects a lifelong interest in art that began with secretly sketching portraits while growing up in South Korea, followed by studies in fashion design and a career as a New York fashion designer and illustrator. Her illustrations appeared on products sold by Bloomingdale’s and Saks Fifth Avenue. After marriage and motherhood redirected her personal and professional path, she returned to painting in 2023. Her work has since appeared in numerous juried exhibitions, and she won the People’s Choice Award at Beach Kraft Gallery’s “Highly Animated” exhibition in both 2024 and 2025.

Showtimes: The opening reception is 5:00–7:00 PM on September 5. The exhibition may be viewed from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM on September 5, 6, 8–13, 15–20, 22–27, and 29–30. The gallery is generally open Tuesday through Sunday, noon to 8:00 PM, throughout September.
