Twenty Years of We Are Scientists: Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of "With Love and Squalor"

Tue, Nov 17, 2026at 7:00 PM
540 Penn Street Northeast, Washington, DC
$25-$30
Featuring: We Are Scientists, Sean McVerry, Keith Murray, Chris Cain

We Are Scientists mark the 20th anniversary of *With Love and Squalor* with a full-album performance, followed by additional hits from their catalog. The New York indie rock band will also draw from *Qualifying Miles*, their ninth studio album, as they continue to pair their sharp, energetic sound with new musical directions.

The group features founding members Keith Murray and Chris Cain, who have maintained a long-running career built on infectious guitar-driven rock, wit, and musical experimentation. *Qualifying Miles* revisits the stripped-down immediacy of the indie rock that influenced them, while the anniversary set looks back to the record that established their reputation.

The evening also features Brooklyn singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and composer Sean McVerry. His work combines detailed songwriting with an eclectic, cinematic style. McVerry’s recent project *STEVE* grew out of a two-year songwriting process and a weekly Brooklyn song challenge that produced more than 90 songs. The resulting album explores metropolitan anxiety, nihilism, friendship, and resistance, and was recorded and produced by McVerry and Zeno Pittarelli, with additional engineering by Abe Seiferth.
