TIME IN THE WILDERNESS

Time in the Wilderness, an instrumental quintet based in Washington, DC, brings their signature blend of improvisational grooves and expansive soundscapes to Songbyrd Music House on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. The band’s music explores themes of hope and discovery through intricate rhythms, with dueling drummers Brad Samuels and Paul Aquilino creating a unified pocket of polyrhythms, while bassist Mike Landis (playing both 4-string and 6-string tic-tac bass) locks in the groove. Guitar, synth, and other sonic devices (Andre Radloff) cultivate, nurture, and destroy themes on meandering planes, and Ralph Burrows’ soaring trumpet transports listeners to other spheres. The evening also features three supporting acts: Last Legs, an indie rock band from New Jersey formed in 2021, whose self-titled debut album on Our Days Are Numbered records (released June 2024) merges 90s indie rock, early new wave, and influences of Sparks and Suicide; plus Doll Apartments and The Delarcos.
