David Chappell Band • Featuring Rachel Hall
David Chappell leads a rotating ensemble of veteran Washington, D.C.–area musicians in a roots-oriented afternoon concert featuring singer-songwriter, guitarist, and vocalist Rachel Hall. The September 20 lineup also includes bassist Johnny Castle and drummer Pete Ragusa.
Chappell is a Washington, D.C., native who has received multiple Washington Area Music Awards, including Musician of the Year, Rock Instrumentalist of the Year, and Roots Rock Instrumentalist of the Year. Hall is known for her powerful voice, with a style that has drawn comparisons to Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt, Brandi Carlile, and Janis Joplin. She leads the Rachel Hall Band and also performs with Carl Filipiak & The Jimi Jazz Band, in addition to solo, duo, and trio appearances featuring both original songs and covers. Castle’s extensive band history includes the Nighthawks, the Thrillbillys, Bill Kirchen and Too Much Fun, Tex Rubinowitz and the Bad Boys, Arty Hill and the Long Gone Daddys, Switchblade, and Pete Kennedy’s Bound for Glory. Ragusa has played drums with the Tom Principato Band, Scott Ramminger & The Crawstickers, Moonshine Society, Dave Chappell, Patty Reese, Catfish Hodge, and Tommy Lepson.
