Tomahawk
Tomahawk and Melvins co-headline a sold‑out show at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC, on Sunday, July 26, 2026. Doors open at 7 PM, and set times are subject to change. This double bill brings together two titans of adventurous, heavy music: Tomahawk, the long‑running supergroup of veterans from Faith No More, the Jesus Lizard, Helmet, and Mr. Bungle, and Melvins, the legendary Pacific Northwest band that has been fusing punk and sludge for over four decades. Both acts have deep catalogs and storied histories, making this a must‑see for fans of boundary‑pushing rock.
Tomahawk originally formed in 2001 when guitarist Duane Denison (the Jesus Lizard), vocalist Mike Patton (Faith No More, Mr. Bungle), drummer John Stanier (Helmet, Battles), and bassist Trevor Dunn (Mr. Bungle, Fantômas) entered the studio and emerged with a self‑titled debut. The band followed with *Mit Gas* (2003) and *Anonymous* (2007), then released *Oddfellows* in 2013, which reached No. 9 on the Billboard Top Independent Albums Chart and earned glowing reviews from outlets such as The A.V. Club, Revolver, and Pitchfork. After extensive touring, the members returned to their many other projects until their 20th anniversary, when they released *Tonic Immobility*. Now, on their 25th anniversary, Tomahawk has returned to the stage with their signature blend of lurid, thorny, and profoundly weird music.
Melvins were founded in 1983 in Montesano, Washington, by guitarist/vocalist Buzz Osborne, with drummer Dale Crover joining a year later. The band pioneered a genre‑defying fusion of punk and heavy music, releasing more than 30 original albums over four decades. Recent works include *Tarantula Heart* (2024), *Bad Mood Rising* (2022), and *Five Legged Dog* (2021), a 36‑track acoustic retrospective that reimagined their heaviest songs alongside covers. Known for relentless creativity and collaborations with Jello Biafra, Mudhoney, and Fantômas, the Melvins’ current touring lineup features Osborne, Crover, and Steven McDonald (Redd Kross). The band has embraced ever‑changing configurations while staying true to their roots.
