Bach's Christmas Oratorio: The Christmas Story (Parts 1, 2, 4, 5, 6)

The Washington Bach Consort presents a performance of Johann Sebastian Bach’s *Christmas Oratorio* (BWV 248) that focuses on the Nativity story through selected parts—Parts I, II, IV, V, and VI. This Director’s Series concert follows the liturgical calendar, moving from the birth of Jesus (Christmas Day) through the angels’ announcement to the shepherds, the naming of Jesus, the journey of the Magi, and the Epiphany. Under the direction of the Consort, the program pairs festive choruses with trumpets and timpani, introspective arias, and congregational chorales, creating a reverent and joyful atmosphere rather than mere spectacle. In 2025, the Washington Classical Review named the Consort’s *Christmas Oratorio* the year’s “best Christmas concert.”
