El Ten Eleven
El Ten Eleven brings its layered, experimental instrumental sound to Pearl Street, with Tall Tall Trees also on the bill. The performance is associated with the duo’s 16th release, *Nowhere Faster*, an eight-track, 33-minute album that explores urgency, uncertainty, aging, loss, and the uneasy feeling of moving forward without a clear destination.
The album was created by longtime members Kristian Dunn and Tim Fogarty after the band’s longest break from touring and recording in its 23-year history. Dunn wrote material for two drummers, while Fogarty took on some of the most demanding drumming of his career. The record also expands El Ten Eleven’s palette with live strings and piano, alongside Dunn’s bass-driven experimentation and Fogarty’s propulsive rhythms. Its first half uses electric bass, while the second half features processed acoustic bass. The songs range from an AI-era meditation on paranoia to a Bond-theme-inspired instrumental and a closing, Americana-tinged reflection influenced by Kurt Vonnegut’s *Slaughterhouse-Five*.
