Mike LeDonne's Groovers Quartet - Hammond B3 Week

Mike LeDonne’s Groovers Quartet appears at Blues Alley as part of Hammond B3 Week. Led by pianist and Hammond organist Mike LeDonne, the performance draws on his more than four-decade career with major figures from swing, bebop, and modern jazz. His credits include work with Benny Goodman, Roy Eldridge, Milt Jackson, Dizzy Gillespie, Art Farmer, Clifford Jordan, Sonny Rollins, George Coleman, Bobby Hutcherson, and Benny Golson.

LeDonne spent 11 years as Milt Jackson’s pianist and musical director and has appeared on more than 200 recordings, including 20 albums under his own name. A pianist since early in his career, he later became one of the leading Hammond organists of his generation after beginning to play the instrument at age 10. He has been recognized by the Jazz Journalists Association and DownBeat, taught at Juilliard, and was praised by Oscar Peterson as one of his favorite pianists of the era.
