The Kennedys “SMOKETREE” Tour Celebrating Maura’s Birthday & The Club’s 25th Anniversary

The Kennedys bring their “SMOKETREE” Tour to Jammin Java in celebration of Maura Kennedy’s birthday and the club’s 25th anniversary. The performance is part of the Jammin Java/Union Stage Presents 25th anniversary concert series, with commemorative merchandise available through the anniversary gift shop.

Pete and Maura Kennedy have performed together for more than 30 years, after meeting at Austin’s Continental Club in 1992. Their musical partnership began soon afterward, eventually leading to a long-running career as a folk-rock and Americana duo. They have released roughly two dozen collections, mostly of original material, and previously performed as part of Nanci Griffith’s Blue Moon Orchestra and as Griffith’s opening act.

The concert celebrates the Kennedys’ 2026 album, *Smoketree*, their first collection of entirely new original songs in three years and the follow-up to 2023’s *Headwinds*, which reached number one on the national Folk DJ chart for a month. The new material addresses environmental issues, social upheaval, displacement caused by violence, and the search for peace, while retaining the duo’s characteristic hopeful and encouraging outlook. Their live performances combine energetic folk-rock, heartfelt songwriting, and a strong sense of connection with the audience.
